SADNESS DOUBLE WHAMMY

Sad news yesterday that the amazingly cool and inspiring Poly Styrene had died at just 53. The news was announced on her website in a uniquely positive way

"We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher place."

Then today we had even more bad news - the last factory producing typewriters has wound up it's operation and have just a few hundred new machines for sale!!
Say it ain't so!

The loss of two icons in two days.
What a sad week.

HAPPY EASTER/UK BANK HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA

Sorry it's late.
Hope you're all enjoying the UK bank holiday-fest in a sugar induced coma.
I've been working *literally* all hours so I can have an amazing summer full of festivals and memories - blogging has suffered...
But as anyone who has spent any time in the UK in April knows, a heat wave combined with a mini school holiday (but for grown-ups) must be taken advantage of.
In parks, BBQ's, beer gardens, your own garden and the gardens of your friends - that's before we get onto funfairs, nature parks and basically anything that involves being outdoors - embrace it!

BOYS WANNA BE HER, GIRLS WANNA BE HER

Alison Mosshart has the wardrobe I would honestly kill for. All shaggy furs, vintage leopard prints and Uniqlo flannel shirts mixed with a touch of Pam Hogg, a hint of Prada and a pinch of Givenchy.
I've blogged about the Vogue online 'Today I am Wearing' feature before, it started out with Alexa Chung and I was a little excited, a chance to snoop around the wardrobes of some of the worlds best dressed women - yes please! But then almost immediately after Chung's month was up we were treated to a role call of mind-numbingly boring models and the daughters of 80's pop stars all wearing mother's Alaia cast-offs.
Snooze.
Thank goodness for Mosshart, someone with their own inherent and unique style. Red pigment eyebrows anyone?

CROSS MY PALM WITH SILVER

We've had a taste of summer over this last week, and while it's glorious to bask in the sunshine knowing what to wear can be extremely tricky. When in London my year round rule is to always be in possession of sunglasses and an umbrella, layering is always a safe bet when the weather changes so suddenly but it can be a tricky look to pull off. Hobo-chic has never been bigger then this past week. I personally have found myself keeping cool by dressing as what can only be described as a hippy. Maxi dresses/kimono jackets/sandals/slouchy handbags and LOTS of silver jewellery.
As someone who was previously all about the gold this is quite a revelation, but when dressing like a hippy you can't beat a good bit of silver.

TICK TOCK

I've never been a great lover of watches, I have a slight phobia of my wrists - bit of an odd one I know, but I just don't like looking at them. I've been wearing the same classic gold 80's Cassio since 2007 which is now battered beyond belief so I've become one of those annoying people who relies on their phone for absolutely everything.
That was until this season at fashion week. iPhone battery fail was my daily gripe. Fully charged at 9am - down to 8% by 1pm. I tried everything. Turning down the brightness of my screen, taking less images and videos, less tweeting, turning it off between shows and even queueing for the not very good charging points.  In reality the only thing left is to get a proper watch.
On some level I think my dislike of watches comes from being given many disgusting ladies 'dress' watches for various Christmas/birthday presents. You know the ones, thin silver strap, tiny useless face in some god-awful pastel shade, accompanied sometimes by diamante encrusted hands.
*heave*
And, Oh, the trauma of having to wear it whenever the Uncle/Aunt/Grandparent who gave you the rotten thing came to visit.
*shudder*
Kids today have eBay and no idea of how lucky they are.
So anyway spurred on by my need of watch that is both functional and attractive I've had a little trawl through what's on offer, so you don't have to.
